2011-2012 New Endowments

During 2011-2012, 17 new endowment funds were established for the benefit of Shippensburg University students, faculty, and programs.

Scholarships help the University attract and retain the very best and brightest students. For the fourth year in a row, the total dollar value of scholarships provided in one year surpassed the $1 million mark!  All direct student-aid, including scholarships, awards, and low-interest loans totaled $1,169,616. The number of scholarships, awards, and low-interest loans provided to students was 822. Over the past five years, the SU Foundation has provided $5,199,900 in scholarships to Shippensburg University students.  If you are interested in establishing a scholarship, a joint undergraduate student/faculty research, honors, or department endowment, please contact the SU Foundation at 477-1377.

The Dr. Emil Bej Scholarship 
Incoming freshmen who are entering an undergraduate degree program administered by the Economics Department within the College of Arts & Sciences.

The Dr. James A. Beres & Merry Jean Beres Student/Faculty Research Fund for Chemistry 
Established to fund student/faculty research benefiting the Chemistry Department.

The Brian Christman Memorial Scholarship for the Department of Music & Theatre Arts  
Recipient must be a full-time freshman enrolled in any undergraduate degree who demonstrates financial need and has an aptitude for the performing arts. The recipient will be selected through an audition process.  Upon acceptance of the scholarship, the recipient must declare a Music or Theatre minor respective to their discipline.

The Nate and Lynne Douty Scholarship
For incoming freshmen completing a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

The Ralphine and Gary Gentzler Scholarship
For incoming freshmen who intend to seek certification to teach at the elementary level. Preference will be given to first generation students who demonstrate financial need.

The Dr. Jere R. Holman Science and Mathematics Education Scholarship
Upper division scholarship for students enrolled in the elementary/middle level (grades 4 – 8) degree program administered by the Teacher Education Department who have declared a subject teaching area of science and/or mathematics  and demonstrate financial need.

The Knutelsky Family Football Scholarship
Recipient must be a student-athlete who is, or intends to become, a member in good standing of Shippensburg University’s Red Raider Football team.

The Elizabeth Jane Benge Leto Scholarship
For incoming freshmen completing a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

The H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center Endowment
Established to fund future programming at the Luhrs Performing Arts Center.

The McCreary and Reisner Memorial Scholarship
For incoming freshmen who are entering an undergraduate degree program within the humanities or social sciences (including the Interdisciplinary Arts Program)

The Fay Emily Reid Memorial Field Hockey Scholarship 
Recipient must be an incoming freshman student-athlete who is, or intends to become a member in good standing of Shippensburg University’s Lady Raider field hockey team.

The Jack and Arlene Roddick Red Raider Football/Red Raider Track Scholarship
Recipient must be a student-athlete who is, or intends to become, a member in good standing of Shippensburg University’s Red Raider Football team or the Red Raider Track team.

The Scotland School for Veterans’ Children Scholarship 
Recipients must be graduates, directly related to graduates, or former employees of the Scotland School for Veterans’ Children, or have a direct relationship to an honorably discharged veteran or active duty service person.

The Tim and Jill Smith Scholarship 
For incoming freshmen completing a minimum of 12 credits per semester.

The Tim and Jill Smith Engineering Endowment
Established for programs benefiting current and future engineering programs within the College of Arts & Sciences.

The Shirley M. Wood Scholarship
For a freshman, transfer, or upper division student at Shippensburg University who has graduated from Carlisle High School and who demonstrates financial need.

The Janet Hollar Zullinger Scholarship
For incoming freshmen who have been accepted for admission to Shippensburg University’s elementary education program within the Teacher Education Department, completing a minimum of 12 credits per semester.
